For the last 5 years I’ve read 50+ books but I wanted to push myself a bit farther this year, so I decided to try for 75 books. That would amount to about 4.5 books a week. Though I likely won't hit my goal (I had a few off weeks this year) I will get pretty close. So far I'm at 64 books and will close out the year closer to 66-68 books total.
But just because I didn't hit my goal in 2024, doesn't mean I won't try again next year. My TBR list is quite long and I've found myself happily trapped on Booktok and Bookstagram, so the list just keeps growing endlessly.
To help me get closer to my goal, I want to limit my screen time tremendously, so this list is really made for those looking for book recommendations to read more and scroll less in 2025! I tend to give everything a try, so I'm sharing all sorts of genres and niches in the list below that grabbed my attention or interest in the past.
My absolute favorite genre of non-fiction. If you love reading about the juicy details and inner workings of people's lives I highly recommend starting out nice and slow in the memoir genre. I love reading memoirs at the top of the year because they always seem to motivate me. If you're looking for a good laugh, a tear jerking motivational story that brings you tears or you're just interested in learning more about someone from their POV these 8 book recommendations have got you covered.
My personal favorite on this list: "Finding Me" by Viola Davis BUT I really love them all so much!
If you're in the mood for more of a light hearted happy ending kind of book I call these the Rom Com, lovey dovey enemies to lovers books. These are my favorite to read in February (obviously because of Valentine's Day duh) and in the summer because I can fly through them quickly while I tan on the beach or relax in the park.
My personal favorite on this list: "Black Girls Must Be Magic" This particular one is a 3 part series and I read all three of them in two weeks!
Want a bit of critical theory wrapped up in a fantasy dystopian setting? These book recommendations will scratch that itch perfectly. The best part about this list (at least to me) is that just about all of them have some sort of TV / movie version that you can watch (after you've read the book) to compare or get a visual of what you pictured in your head.
I highly recommend this genre if you really loved movies/ books like Hunger Games or Minority Report.
My personal favorite on this list: "The Testaments" Ms. Margaret Atwood took her time writing / releasing the follow up to the first installment "The Handmaid's Tale". But I won't say any further to avoid spoiling either books for you! You can absolutely read "The Testaments" first if you haven't read "The Handmaid's Tale" BUT I recommend reading them in order.
If you want to keep up with what I'm reading you can catch me on Goodreads here!
If you like trying to solve the mystery these will leave you on the edge of your seat. Besides memoirs, thrillers are my absolute favorite literary genre. Side note: They're also my favorite genre of film (but we're here to decrease screen time so that fun fact is absolutely irrelevant -- I digress)
My absolute favorite on this list: Recursion ! I won't ruin it for you, but I will say if you have ever seen or really love the Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt movie "Edge of Tomorrow" you will absolutely love Recursion. "On A Quiet Street" was a very close second favorite in 2024, because WHEW the twists are never ending !
If you want to learn something by the end... this is the list you need. I find that if I'm in a reading funk, I need a captivating non fiction text to reinvigorate me and these books did just that.
My personal favorite on this list: "They Called Me Lioness" which gives such a critical retelling of Ahed Tamimi's personal experience growing up in Palestine. Technically this would fall into the memoir category but she goes into a great deal of historical background so I felt it was more appropriate for the general non fiction recommendations.
If you're trying to get better with your money I highly recommend you grab a copy of one of these books below! Not to sound bias of course -- but one of my favorites on the list just so happens to be the book I authored "So This Is Why I'm Broke"
2025 is the perfect year to get your finances under control and get one step closer to financial freedom. Future millionaire, I chose these books specifically because they speak on money in a very clear, concise and actionable way. There's no need to feel shame and there's no need to throw your hands up in frustration.
2025 is your year to get good with money!
Reader beware these will f--k with your 🧠 mind! After I finished each of these books I really had to sit for a brief moment with myself and really debrief. I also read Pretty Girls, The Good Daughter (another Karin Slaughter book) and We Need To Talk About Kevin back to back... I do NOT recommend doing that.
But... my I do recommend giving these books a read if you want a little bit of a shocking and disturbing vibe. I read these in October so... spooky vibes for sure.
My personal favorite on this list: "Hidden Pictures" had a shocking ending that I didn't see coming and you need to suspend your disbelief to avoid punching holes in the plot. You've been warned.
Let me know what other books you'd love added to master list below! Cheers to reading more and scrolling less in 2025!
Until next time,
