Written by Millennial In debt on October 1, 2024

It is officially Q4 and seasonal hiring is in FULL swing. Which means if you want to land a seasonal role (with the potential to go full time) you need to start applying ASAP!

Many roles are already being filled or have tight deadlines to be filled in the first few weeks of October to ensure proper training and preparation when the holiday season kicks into overdrive.

Here are some helpful tips so you can prepare your seasonal job applications

How to Prepare for Seasonal Job Applications:

A Step-by-Step Guide

Yes, seasonal jobs offer a great opportunity to earn extra income, but they are not simply handing them out. Especially not in this job market. You are going to need to highlight valuable experience, and be flexible in various industries.

This list of 60 seasonal jobs hiring now varies across many industries like retail, hospitality, tech…etc.  Some are remote, some are on site and a few are offering hybrid accommodations.

🚨Gentle reminder: The remote and hybrid roles will usually be a bit more competitive or rely heavily on customer service via telephone.

It’s important to approach the application process with preparation and professionalism especially if you are interested in the role potentially leading to a full time position.

Here’s how you can effectively prepare to apply for seasonal jobs so you can get started applying today!

1. Identify the Right Industries:

Different industries have peak seasons at different times of the year. Retail, customer service, and delivery services hire for the holiday season (October through December), while tourism, hospitality, and landscaping industries may be busier during the summer months. So when you are doing your research (outside of the list provided below take note of those different seasonal offerings)

Decide what type of work you’re interested in and when you’re available. Research companies that commonly hire during those periods to understand the types of roles you can apply for.

2. Tailor Your Resume for Seasonal Work:

Seasonal jobs usually prioritize candidates who can quickly adapt and fill a gap in the workforce. Emphasize your ability to work in fast-paced environments and handle short-term roles with flexibility. Include any previous seasonal work, temporary jobs, or relevant part-time experience. Highlight your soft skills like communication, customer service, and problem-solving, which are often key in seasonal roles.

3. Prepare a Cover Letter that Shows Flexibility:

Trust me when I tell you this … I HATE writing cover letters, but the name of the job market game right now is COMPETITION! The market is overly saturated with highly talented people who are looking for their next opportunity.

Even though seasonal positions are temporary, submitting a well-crafted cover letter can set you apart from other applicants. Use the cover letter to highlight your enthusiasm for the position, your availability, and your adaptability. If you don’t know where to start or how to craft one use an AI tool to help you get started 🚨DO NOT copy the cover letter word for word! Make it your own and adjust it so it fits your voice.

Make sure that your cover letter is relevant to the role and clearly emphasizes that you understand the nature of the job and are ready for the challenges.

4. Start Early and Stay Organized:

Companies start hiring for seasonal positions several months in advance. So if you are looking for a seasonal role from November - January – October is your best bet.

Some employers that hire for the holidays start their hiring process as early as September (Target most certainly has had their seasonal roles up since the start of September).

Begin your search as early as possible to be one of the early applicants. Seasonal roles are filled quickly. You may see a role available today and it could be filled by tomorrow.  Apply to multiple positions to increase your chances. Keep track of application deadlines, interview schedules, and follow-up reminders using a calendar or spreadsheet to stay organized.

5. Prepare for Interviews and Assessments

I know it seems that with every application or interview process, there seems to be a ton of hoops to jump through and homework assignments to complete. Even though seasonal jobs may have a quicker interview process, don’t neglect preparation. Stay ready so you don’t have to get ready

Research the company and the role you’re applying for. Be ready to answer common interview questions, particularly those related to customer service, teamwork, and time management.

Practice asking and answering questions about handling high-pressure situations (this is a common question because seasonal is often fast-paced and demanding- have a specific experience ready as your answer)

6. Demonstrate Availability and Willingness to Work Odd Hours:

One of the main reasons companies hire seasonal workers is to help with increased demand during peak times. These jobs often require evening, weekend, or holiday shifts.

Be upfront about your availability and willingness to work unconventional hours. If you have flexibility in your schedule, make sure to mention this during the application process.

With these steps you are more likely to successfully grab a seasonal job this year! Here’s a list of 60 seasonal jobs hiring now ⬇️
