5 Tips To Properly CoWash Natural Hair

1. Saturate Your Hair With Water: You will want to co-wash your hair on saturated water. It is best and easiest to do so when in the shower. It will also make the conditioner spread through your hair easier if your hair is wet.

2. Co-Wash In Sections: This is especially crucial if you have a lot of hair. You want to co-wash in sections because it will make it easier to keep the hair detangled. It will also make sure you are delivering even amounts of product throughout your strands if you do so in sections.

3. Massage conditioner on your scalp: When co-washing make sure you focus on your scalp. My massaging the conditioner in your scalp you are helping to circulate blood flow, promote growth, and break up any product build up.

4. Detangle: Detangle your hair with a wide tooth comb or your fingers (my favorite method) while the conditioner is still in our hair. This will also help the conditioner move down the strands and towards the ends. You want to add a bit more conditioner to the ends as they are the oldest part of your hair and need the most care/moisture.

5. Rinse completely: Even if you don't rinse all of the conditioner out you want to make sure you rinse out 90% of the conditioner. I know it may seem like leaving the conditioner in is a good idea, but it will cause your hair to take a million years to dry. Instead rinse 90% out and you will still have the slip and moisture you love while cutting down on air drying time.

*clarify as necessary and be careful that co-washing isn't doing more harm than good. If you have scalp conditions then you may want to cleanse with a sulfate free shampoo instead of a co-wash. A DIY shampoo will also do the trick.
