20 Best Protein Treatments For Natural Hair

Written by Millennial In debt on August 22, 2016

Last year I had a bit of an issue with protein overload  and since then have gotten the situation mostly under control. With a change in a few products that I was using and a couple of tweaks in my natural hair care regimen I've helped bring my hair nightmare to an end for the most part. I still have issues with one side growing faster than the other, and being thicker/fuller than the other ... but I've gotten rid of the breakage issue.

For a long time I was avoiding adding any types of protein into my natural hair care regimen beacuse I had too much. For those of you suffering from protein overload or protein sensitivity this post is not for you. But protein is important to your hair because your hair is made mostly up protein. If you notice your hair acting strange it could be because your hair is lacking protein (especially if you dye your hair or straighten your hair frequently.) With us constantly stripping our hair of its natural proteins it should come as no surprise that we have to replenish it. Depending on the amount of damage we do, we'll need various levels of protein re-added. Below we have the 20 best treatments for natural hair needs for all levels. Whatever you need, or have done to your natural hair we've got you covered.

  1. Thank you for this post and list! Useful!

I have only tried one protein treatment: the Komaza Care Protein Hair Strengthener. It transformed my hair, and it gets amazing reviews. Everything worked better on my hair after my first use of it. I definitely feel it is worth trialing, especially when the 5 ounce samples of it are in stock. (Aside: When trialing anything, of course consider first doing a strand test 🙂 ). The Komaza Care Protein Hair Strengthener is available here: https://komazahaircare.com/product/protein-hair-strengthener/.

I have heard good things about Colorful Netural Protein Filler (available at Sally's). I need to research the ingredients before trialing it. Also, I am curious about Shea Moisture's new Bamboo and Maca Root Resilient Growth Protein Masque. Finally, the GreenBeauty Channel YouTube creator distributes a product called the REAL Protein Treatment. It gets great reviews, and the ingredients look wonderful. I hope to try it someday. It is available here: http://greenbeautyproducts.com/real-protein-treatment/.

Thank you again for this list. It's nice to have so many options, and the breakdown into light, penetrating, and hard/constructive categories is super helpful!

    Many blessings!

  2. Hello,
I was reading the list, and I noticed DevaCurl Heaven In Hair listed as a Reconstructor/Hard Protein treatment. It's actually an Intense Moisture Treatment. I love it. Aphogee 2 Minute Reconstructor is great!! Love the post 🙂

  3. Thanks for sharing. But mayonnaise and eggs give my girls head a dandruff and wasn’t helpful at all.
