Samantha: I decided to go natural 12 years ago. I was inspired by a close friend and I really wanted to have healthy hair.
Screen Shot 2014-08-31 at 8.14.54 PMHow long have you been natural & is it what you expected?
Samantha: I have been natural for 12 years.  Yes. It is actually way better than I could have ever imagined. My hair is so much stronger, resilient than it ever was relaxed.
Screen Shot 2014-08-31 at 8.15.14 PMWhat stage are you at in your natural hair journey & how did you transition?
Samantha: I've been natural for so long, I don't really consider it a stage anymore,(lol). Just me and my hair, BFF'S fa'eva! Haha!  My hair ranges in texture from 3c to 4A sometimes 4b. I transitioned from a relaxer. Then I chopped it off and started over. I actually wore my hair straight for a long time before realizing how much styling can be done without the use of heat.
Screen Shot 2014-08-31 at 8.15.30 PMWhat are some struggles your natural hair presented for you ?
Samantha: I think I've dealt with them all. Detangling was one of the worst in the beginning for me, but now that I understand my hair I know exactly how to address the problem. I think the journey is not only about appreciating your hair, but learning how your specific hair type works and what it requires. Once you learn that, it'll do what you want it to do. 😉
Screen Shot 2014-08-31 at 8.15.46 PMDid you ever feel like you had to compensate for being natural?
Samantha:  Nope!:) When I went natural I made a decision to be my own person regardless of what anyone thought. At the time there were hardly any naturals so I definitely received my fair share of looks, but I believe this: You can't focus so hard on what other people think of you that you begin to neglect your own self-love and appreciation for your own values. My motto is do what YOU want. 🙂
