best natural hair sealants

The LOC Method is a crucial part of your natural hair care regimen that helps maintain the moisture you have added during wash day or a styling session. It is important when practicing the LOC method (or LCO method for some) that you are truly using the proper sealants to lock in that moisture. This leads us to the perfect list of natural hair sealants that you can use/ experiment with to see which works best for your natural hair.

It is also really important to know the difference between a moisturizer and sealant. For these purposes you are looking for SEALANTS to seal in the moisture. To further help you differentiate between a moisturizing or a sealing oil check out this post here.

Top 5 Best Natural Hair Sealants

1. Castor Oil: Castor oil is a house hold staple in the natural hair community for its benefits on growth, length retention and thickening. So its no surprise that it is an excellent sealant. This thick oil is great to add into your deep conditioner and pre-poo. If you are torn between regular castor oil and jamaican black castor oil I break down the differences for you here!

 2. Jojoba Oil: Jojoba oil is extremely beneficial to your natural hair care regimen and its no surprise it is also an amazing sealant. Jojoba oil not only adds shine to your hair, but is a strengthener and contains antibacterial properties. For more detailed info on the 5 benefits of jojoba oil on your natural hair click here!

3.Grapeseed Oil: Grapeseed oil has a high burn point so many naturalistas us it as a heat protectant when flat ironing or blow drying their hair. Grapeseed oil is also a great sealant for that reason as well. The fatty amino acids put a coating on your hair that is not greasy or heavy, but effectively keeps the moisture in.

4. Shea Butter: Shea butter is one of those products (similarly to coconut oil) that can be used for so many things. Besides amazing skin benefits, shea butter can also be used to benefit your natural hair. Be light handed when using shea butter as a sealant as it is thick and can weigh down your hair if you use too much of it. If you are looking for other butters to use in your natural hair besides shea butter we've got you covered with 6 alternate butters for your natural hair.

5. Aloe Vera Gel/Juice: Aloe vera juice or gel (I prefer the gel as a sealant) not only help to seal moisture in but help to balance the pH of your natural hair. If you are using products such as bentonite clay that elevate your pH using Aloe vera juice or gel will help bring it back down to a moisturized neutral level.

What sealants do you use to seal your natural hair? Leave us your feedback below and we'll keep our list updated!
