Loc Appreciation: @Londen_Bridgez Shares Her Transition To Locs

When/Why did you decide to go natural?
Londen: I decided to go natural in August 2010. After my hair fell out because of the relaxer and hair dye, I began to get sew-ins. Although they were cute when I first got them done, after a while they did nothing for me or my confidence. My look had no character, there was nothing unique about me and I did not like that. Weaves no longer satisfied me.

How long have you been natural & is it what you expected?
Londen: I have been natural for 4 years and 3 months. Loc'd for 3 years and 5 months. Being Natural IS what I expected. It is very liberating. I love it!

What stage are you at in your natural hair journey & how did you transition?
Londen: My locs are at the rooted stage. If I can remember correctly, my hair texture is 4a/4b. I did the big chop. I didn't have the patience for the transitioning process. Once I decide I'm going to do something, I go all in.

What are some struggles your natural hair presented for you ?
Londen: A struggle I am facing now, is the thinning of my locs. So right now I'm searching for the right products to strengthen my hair.

Did you ever feel like you had to compensate for being natural? When my hair was shorter, I did compensate with make up and big earrings.
Londen: I actually didn't wear make up until I became natural. Now make up is an option, I don't use it to make me feel prettier, but to enhance my beauty.

What are some words of wisdom/advice/ or inspiration you have for any one that may be considering following in your foot steps in to the natural world?
Londen: If you are considering getting locs, do it! Embrace the entire journey. From starter locs to budding it is all beautiful. Don't worry about what others will think or say, DO YOU and be proud!
