We spoke about the importance of your hair being pH balanced and staying at a slightly acidic rating (4.5-5.5). When your hair is pH balanced it will thrive in a healthy state. When the balance is off that is usually due to specific products that are either too acidic or too basic. Many of the products we use for our natural hair care (especially the DIY route) are not pH balanced therefore we must take a few extra minor steps to bring the pH of our hair back to where it is supposed to be after we have raised or lowered it.

Luckily there are many products that are formulated to bring back not only the moisture/protein balance back to your tresses but also your pH levels. Here are my top 10 recommendations for pH balanced products for your natural hair. All of these products I have tried personally at one time or another in my natural hair care regimen, and I stand behind them as great investments. Of course everything does not work for everyone, but thankfully most of these products are right within most of our product junkie budgets and we can splurge a bit to get our tresses looking right just in time for the summer.

  1. Thank you very much! This post has helped me tremendously. Is it possible to provided an update? I would love a post on styling products that are PH balanced.

  2. Thanks for sharing this article. I'm on a really tight budget and only buy new products when they are on sale or BOGO. I did spend a lot the 1st time I decided to transition

  3. I'm a die-hard fan of the Herbal Essences Hello Hydration shampoo and conditioner. It DOES contain sulfates (shampoo), but if you don't use it weekly, as I only use it to clarify about every 4 weeks and co-wash the remaining times I wash my hair, the combination of the 2 leaves my hair well moisturized, shiny and smooth.

  4. Why is the ph of the conditioners not posted as well? One shouldn't assume they are acidic/within the correct ph range which is between 4.5-5.5. Any shampoo that is over 5.5 is going to strip the acid mantle. "Acid balanced" is the correct term to use when referring to products being the right ph for human hair and skin. Non professional conditioners can sometimes have waxes and plastics that coat and build up on the hair causing discoloration, dullness and loss of elasticity due to being too coated to receive moisture. Go professional and you'll also support smaller business.
