Loc Appreciation: Jasmine Shares Her Transition To Locs

When/Why did you decide to go natural?
JasmineI started my locs in 2009, when I was in college. I was tired of my hair breaking and not growing. My mom permed my hair as a child, so I didn't remember what my natural texture was like.

How long have you been natural & is it what you expected?
JasmineI've been natural for around 6 years and I have been loc'd for 5.5+ years. Being natural is what I expected and more. I've never had this much hair and it has never been this healthy! This was the best hair decision of my life.

What stage are you at in your natural hair journey & how did you transition? ((twa fro etc.))
JasmineI am in the adult locs stage. I'm not really sure what texture I have. I transitioned with protective styling, braids.

What are some struggles your natural hair presented for you ?
JasmineI guess the biggest struggle was having to deal with negative comments. People actually asked my parents why they let me do this to my hair.

Did you ever feel like you had to compensate for being natural? ((Wearing make up or dressing up))
JasmineNo, I've never felt like I've had to compensate.

What are some words of wisdom/advice/ or inspiration you have for any one that may be considering following in your foot steps in to the natural world?
JasmineThe biggest advice I can give is to do what is best for you! Do let negative or misinformed people hinder you from making, what could be, the bigger decision of your hair life.
