It seems that whenever people talk about saving money the first advice offered is to find a way to increase your income. And while side hustles are always a plus (8 Easy Side Hustles To Help Pay Off Student Loans), they're not always possible. You have to factor in work schedules and the amount of "free time" you have when it comes to adding in side hustles to your agenda.

That means that increasing your income is not always as easy as grabbing a side hustle or two during your free time. Asking for a raise isn't always an option either, because if it was I'd ask for 3! That means that in order for you to have more money at the end of the month is to cut your costs. Surprisingly enough, cutting costs is the easier route as compared to grabbing a side hustle or making more steady income.

Though it may be the easier option, it does require a bit of work. Cutting costs is going to take some tenacity, patience, and know how.  Most of the time, cutting costs is going to mean asking companies to cancel or lower certain products you're used to having on a month to month. Besides formal options like cutting cable, Netflix and lowering your car insurance, you also will have to put some limitations on your extra curricular activities. This means cutting out your frequent trips to Starbucks/ Dunkin Donuts, turning down  your co-workers for happy hour, and buying more store brand instead of brand name items.

Below you'll find 70 costs to cut when you're broke and need to have a bit more money left over from month to month. The key thing to remember when cutting costs is that you don't want to give up things you love long term. So yes I do cut out manicures and pedicures from my lifestyle for 10 out of the 12 months. I get my nails and toes done only in the summer, and save the money from that for the rest of the year. Make deals with yourself and reward yourself accordingly, but make sure your finances are in order to where you want them to truly be.

Saving and money management is all mind over matter. If you can live without it... it doesn't matter!

  1. I agree with most of your list.

I still think AAA membership is important, especially for us ladies who are pretty helpless if something goes wrong while we're driving.

The other is tithing. This is one thing the Bible says we may test God on. From the last book of the Old Testament: "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the Lord Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it." Malachi 3:10 New Internation Version
