Happy New Year Future Millionaire! The job market is getting ready to pick up speed as recruiters and hiring managers head back into the office this week. Typically you will see an uptick in job postings, callbacks for interviews, and offers during the middle of the month. Why?
Companies are releasing their budgets for the fiscal year and will have a better understanding of their needs. That means if you’re looking for a new job or thinking about pivoting careers, over the next two weeks you’re going to be busy preparing for this influx. Because when it starts you’ll want to be applying to 30-40 jobs a week!
Exhausting… yes… but when applying for a new job you are playing a numbers game at the very least. The more your resume is out there the higher likelihood you’ll get called in for interviews and land your next big role.
If you don’t have a job search arsenal of tools to strengthen and ease your search, this list is for you! Here’s a helpful list of the 5 best tools for your job search in 2023 to help you get that job you truly want!
There are a ton of job search engines in these streets. Some are great and some not so great. You want to have at least 4-5 job search engines that you use to look up available roles that you are interested in or qualify for. Why not just one? Well not every role is posted on one single search engine so you definitely don’t want to close yourself off from possible positions you may not even know are seeking candidates. If you don’t know where to start your search, I suggest taking a peek at the 25 best job search engines to help you find a job in 2023!
As cliché as it sounds, your resumé is your calling card. It’s what gets you into the door. If your resume isn’t getting the job done, that means you’re going to be fighting an uphill battle that will never come to an end. You need to have a tool that is easy to manage, understand, and most importantly use. Let’s leave the fancy Canva resumes in 2022. Your resume should have a simple clean design that won’t get tripped up in the ATS scan. Microsoft Word is still my resume bae and always will be. I suggest using Jobscan, or Zip Recruiter as a second set of professional AI hands. They help optimize your resume (Jobscan also scans your LinkedIn profile) and make sure it stands out for the roles you’re applying for.
I know you’ve been waiting to see when would LinkedIn specifically come up on the list. While LinkedIn is a great job search engine, and also has resume building features, one of its greatest strengths is its networking opportunities. A networking app is crucial to making and building connections that can help you in your job search. Y’all know the phrase: it’s not what you know but who you know. Even if that may not always be the case, it can’t hurt to have an inside connection at a company you’re interested in working for. Shapr and Meetup are also great networking apps that put you in a space to communicate with like minded people who have similar interests. You want to be, you have to be in the room where it happens, future millionaire ! (yes that was a shameless Hamilton reference)
Gone are the days where you have to keep track of what jobs you’re applying to or what contacts you’ve made. Teal is my favorite digital job application tracker because they make it beyond easy. You can grab the Teal Chrome extension to help you keep track of jobs you are interested in and jobs you’ve applied for. It’s a free service that also gives a once over on your resume to make sure it aligns with the roles you’re interested in applying for.
If you haven’t heard about them yet… trust me you will! ChatGPT is an advanced AI that interacts in a super normal conversational way. (a little eerie I know… but also hella cool) Though I don’t recommend just blindly letting it do all of the work, it’s a great tool to use to help update your resume or draft a cover letter for specific roles. It’s a really powerful tool to keep in your arsenal! You can ask questions, follow up questions, ask for help writing drafts and more!
