How I Made The Switch To Full Time Vegan With Tom's Of Maine

Thank you Tom’s of Maine for sponsoring this post.
Over the last two years I’ve gone back and forth between being vegan, vegetarian, and full on carnivore. When I initially decided to go vegan, I wanted to dive all the way into it beyond just the eating aspect. I wanted to have a true vegan experience and didn’t want to make it simply about the food. I also knew I didn’t want to have an excessively difficult and annoying time doing so. As V-day (the day I officially would be going vegan) approached I cautiously made my full time transition into vegan life. I knew I wanted to make healthier choices over all. So I lived on Pinterest looking up recipes and products that I could use. Walked through every aisle in Trader Joes looking for ingredients and I came across Tom’s Of Maine in my research.

How I Made The Switch To Full Time Vegan With Tom's Of Maine

I know it sounds like I’m being dramatic by acting as though this transition was way harder than it is. That is definitely not the case, or my intent. I entered the transition cautiously because I wanted to make better  informed choices. I didn’t want to be a Vegan who only ate Oreos and changed nothing else in their life.

Fast forward two years, and even with all of my previous preparation I wasn’t prepared for the ins and outs of being a truly devoted vegan. I went back and forth and back and forth, over and over again. I was never able to fully commit because I found it hard to not only make the proper food choices, but to find Vegan friendly  products I could easily find and use in my everyday life.

Going out to eat was always difficult, and finding vegan makeup and toiletries was extremely difficult. I know you’re thinking… Melissa it’s 2017, there’s way more vegan options out there for you to choose from. This is undoubtedly true, but they were either over priced, ineffective, or could only be found and ordered on line (Ugh… I hate paying for shipping and handling).

The worst part… I’m very athletic. Which means… I sweat like a maniac constantly every day. I work out 5 days a week, either before or after work. I then have to hop on the train, so I have no time to smell… less than lady like if you know what I mean. Come on… human courtesy doesn’t go out the window when you’re vegan… I can’t be stinky on the train.  I was ready to give up, because I was honestly over it.

After all my failed attempts at veganism I decided to give it ONE more shot this fall season when I went back to work.  So I decided to put Tom’s of Maine Long Lasting Natural Deodorant to the test. Whenever I decide to truly put a product to the test I like to give it at least a week in order to be fair. Switching from a conventional antiperspirant to a natural product requires some time for your body chemistry to adjust to the new natural formula from the artificial ingredients it’s used to.  After using the Tom’s of Maine deodorant for the last 7 days… and guys I am thoroughly pleased.

Coming from a chemical strength antiperspirant I was nervous that I would be funky and sweaty within the hour. I switched between the refreshing Lemongrass and unscented fragrances. Luckily Tom’s of Maine did not disappoint. It provided me with long lasting odor control without having aluminum in their formula. Tom’s of Maine does not test on animals and does not include any animal ingredients. Can we say vegan win?!?

After spending all of this time perfecting my hair care regimen to include products that do not have harmful ingredients, it was really only a matter of  time before I made the appropriate switch to an effective deodorant that did the same. Tom’s Of Maine doesn’t include any petrochemicals, parabens, aluminum, or artificial fragrances.  Best of all… I can purchase Tom’s of Maine deodorant at Trader Joes… which is essentially my second home (so no shipping costs for me).

My vegan journey is far from perfect, but it is absolutely a beautiful work in progress and Tom’s of Maine makes it that much easier to stick to it.
